On the art of getting Jobs in a college town

well, Jobs are a bitch...they dry up at the most inconvenient times, are quite seasonal, and there is never enough of them at any one time. at least in Fort Collins.

that's the thing that sucks about college towns: it precisely the fact that jobs are tied to college. I managed to find quite a few jobs-no problem-but they either don't last long (no more than 10 days-no, I'm not joking), or don't start until much later-in August.

and of course, none are into stuff I want to work in-which is fine, and I'd still work them (above problem notwithstanding), but I need stuff in the earth sciences for the resume. added to that that I only have a finite amount of money, which means I need a well paying job, I need it now, or I'll be out on the street. If I am, then forget about a job, since Government in its infinite wisdom, says businesses need to get the employee's address. of three application forms for example, all of them want my address. but I currently have no permanent address, so what will I say?

this government incompetence of course, means that I am now in a catch 22: I need a job to get housing, but I need housing to get a job. And Uncle Sam wonders why people can't get jobs?

thankfully, I at least have a family that will take me in in the event of an emergency (my family). but it kind of sucks that I have to depend on them-even in part-for a roof over my head. I'd rather not be a burden on my family-a 21 year old is pretty expensive.

In any event, I do suspect if the economy was better, that I wouldn't be writing about this: no doubt more jobs would be open to me-jobs that I don't have to wait 1 month+ on, or don't last anywhere near as long as a mayfly...
